Write Your Ticket To Marketing Gold

Articles Event Marketing Event Planning

In the past few years, we have focused more and more on internet marketing and how to get people to pay attention to you and your brand through social media and other tech based outlets.  I have even jumped on the bandwagon and started posting live videos on Prism Events’ Facebook page and writing blogs to attract more leads.

In the hoopla over internet marketing, we seemed to have forgotten about promotional branded products.  According to the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI), promotional giveaways are still one of the best and economical ways to promote your business.  It seems old fashioned nowadays, but a branded pen will give you more impressions per dollar spent than any other advertising medium. If you think about it, people are always using pens to sign checks, write notes and even sketch on their tablets.  In the 6-8 months of a pen’s life, you can get over 2,500 impressions.  For under $5!!

There is a small catch.  When you give someone a promotional item, you want them to be happy and positive about the product so they will use it more often.  How do we know which items will be most popular with our target customers?  Here are the top 6 promotional items for the U.S. market according to the ASI’s report.

  1. Clothing-  This includes t-shirts, polo shirts and outerwear
  2. Drinkware-  Cups, mugs, water bottles
  3. Bags- Shopping, tote
  4. USB Drives-
  5. Writing Instruments- Lots of options here
  6. Desk Accessories- Sticky notes, organizer, business card holder

These are the most popular, but which items will give me the most impressions?  According to the ASI report bags, hats, pens, outerwear and t-shirts offer the most impressions in the U.S. market.

  • Bags- 5,772 impressions
  • Hats- 3,136 impressions
  • Pens- 2,805 impressions
  • Outerwear- 2,650 impressions
  • T-shirts- 2,450 impressions

Knowing your target customer can help you choose which promo items will be the most useful to them.  The more useful it is, the longer they will keep it.

Who are your customers?  Do they work in an office?  Do they travel? Do they own their own business?

Within each category mentioned above, there are different qualities, sizes, quantities and logo options that will affect the price.  Be sure to request a sample of the product that you are interested in before you commit to a full order.  There are several promotional product companies out there and if you dig deep enough you can find a great deal.  Sometimes it pays to be a little retro!
